ABJ vs AIS: the direct comparison
Both series use automated inspection technology to identify non-conforming pharmaceutical containers at speeds of up to 400 or 600 bottles per minute, depending on the model. Listed specifications cover 1–30 ml containers at 400 bpm and 1–10 ml containers at 600 bpm.
The main difference is emphasis. The ABJ focuses on high-speed machine vision inspection of injectable liquids and ampoule-specific defects. The AIS places greater emphasis on configurable settings, production-data recording, classified rejection and products that may require additional inspection technology.
What does the ABJ visual inspection machine detect?
The ABJ series is designed for automatic visible particle detection and container-quality inspection in small-volume injections. It can inspect transparent and semi-transparent liquids in ampoules, vials and oral liquid bottles.
Three groups of high-speed industrial cameras capture sequential images for computer analysis. Reflected-light and transmitted-light imaging help the system recognise foreign matter such as glass fragments, metal, fibres, plastic fragments, white spots and black spots.
The ABJ also performs fill-level inspection to identify containers outside the permitted filling-volume range. For ampoule production, optical imaging can check tip quality and carbonisation defects. Vial sealing inspection is also available, making the ABJ practical where visible impurities, fill volume and closure quality must be checked in one process.
Other features include full-servo transmission, bottle-rotation monitoring, customised LED lighting, strobe control and remote diagnostics. These support stable operation and consistent image capture.
Where the AIS series adds flexibility
The AIS visual inspection machine is designed for manufacturers that need greater control over inspection settings and production records. Standard and optional inspection configurations can be adapted to different products and defect criteria.
Its clamp-claw design holds and positions containers without leaving a visual dead zone. Operators can adjust clamping force, clamping speed, rotation speed, number of rotations and rotation time. Tool-free mould replacement also supports quicker format changeovers.
A major difference is how the AIS manages results. Non-conforming products can be rejected by classification, while inspection data and the inspection process are recorded synchronously. This gives quality assurance teams useful information for production analysis, defect trending and batch review.
The AIS can also include an optional X-ray device for vial powders and lyophilised products. It is therefore the more suitable option when conventional camera-based inspection cannot provide sufficient visibility into the product.
Which machine suits your container and product?
Choose the ABJ when your main requirement is automated visual inspection of liquid-filled ampoules, vials or oral liquid containers. It is particularly relevant for ampoule inspection because it can check tip quality and carbonisation alongside visible particles and fill volume.
Choose the AIS when your process requires configurable inspection, detailed data capture, classified rejection or optional X-ray inspection. It may be the better fit for multi-product facilities, frequent changeovers, lyophilised vial inspection or powder-filled vial applications.
For vial and oral liquid production, either series may be suitable. The decision should be based on the defects you need to detect, the product’s optical characteristics, data-traceability requirements and line integration.
Throughput and production-line integration
The ABJ66 and AIS-A60 models provide capacities of up to 400 bottles per minute for listed formats from 1–30 ml. The ABJ90 and AIS-A80 reach up to 600 bottles per minute for formats from 1–10 ml.
Capacity alone should not determine your selection. A high-speed visual inspection machine must match the actual filling-line output, container handling, reject strategy and planned changeover frequency. Stable product presentation and inspection sensitivity are as important as headline speed.

Before choosing pharmaceutical visual inspection equipment, define the product format, liquid clarity, container size and target defects. Consider whether you need ampoule cosmetic inspection, fill-volume verification, sealing-defect detection, reject classification, batch data recording or X-ray inspection.
